The Greatest Christmas Gift Of All
Celebrating the Blessings of Life
Each year we embark on this mad shopping spree, insisting on finding the best gifts we can afford for our family and friends: those we love deeply. We do this purely out of love and charity in our hearts. We want to show appreciation for those in our lives who matter most to us. Parents get more joy out of giving their children gifts than actually receiving things themselves.
When someone you love gives you a thoughtful gift, your natural tendency is to show gratitude by cherishing that gift deeply, taking care of it, and using it for its intended purpose.
Now think about what it looks like to not appreciate a gift. It collects dust in the closet, it’s not taken care of, or it might even just be thrown away.
On Christmas, we come together to celebrate our loving God’s gracious gift to all of us:
The Gift of Life.
But the harsh reality is that life doesn’t always seem like a gift. Life is filled with suffering, pain, loss, and sadness. Some days might be joyful, others filled with sorrow. Some years may be of great abundance, others filled with struggle.
Through it all, it is so important we cherish the life we were given, no matter how difficult it may seem at times. When we weather the storm to overcome adversity, we find a new appreciation for all the joyful parts of life.
If your parents spent a fortune on an expensive gift that you really wanted, you would take care of it and put it to use as much as you could. God has blessed each and every one of us with with skills, talents, opportunities, and even other people. It is important we show gratitude for those gifts by not wasting them and leaning into them as much as we can.
Walk around each day like it was a gift. You have been blessed in more ways than you realize.
Merry Christmas everyone!
